The ASYS 110 Class (1st Sem 2022-23), in coordination with the Agricultural Systems Institute Durungawan Webinar Series and the Interdisciplinary Studies Center on Organic Agriculture (IdSC-OA) organized a webinar titled “What’s Up OA?” Updates on Organic Agriculture, held December 15, 2022 via Zoom. The event was attended by 63 participants composed of students, academic staff, and organic practitioners who are actively involved in organic agriculture.
In his welcome message, ASI Director Virgilio T. Villancio highlighted the importance of organic certification and being well-informed about organic labelling and consumer information.
The lecture delivered by Mr. Vicente D. Limsan, Jr., Science Research Specialist II at the Organic Agriculture Division of the Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries Standards (DA-BAFS) presented the two paths of certification in the Philippines. These include the Participatory Guarantee System and the stages towards accreditation of organic certifying bodies (OCB). He also discussed the standards for organic labelling and consumer information.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Blesilda M. Calub, Faculty in-charge of ASYS110 and Chair of the Interdisciplinary Studies Center on Organic Agriculture (IdSC-OA) extended her gratitude to ASYS 110 students and ASI webinar team for the successful event. She also encouraged everyone to continue supporting the advocacy in promoting organic agriculture in the country
